No medical exams, ever

- that's a promise

The average vet visit can easily cost well over $50, which is money that you really should be spending on new toys and food.

We look for reasons to say yes

Just like pets, every pet insurance program is different, and they ask for different things when considering your coverage. Some programs out there will make your pet have a medical exam before they cover you. Here at TrustedPals, we don’t think that’s fair.

We provide insurance for pets, by pets. So we know that unnecessary exams are stressful. Which is why we don’t make you and your pet go through them before we say yes.

Why pet insurance companies ask for medical exams

Insurance can be complicated, but the basic reason why some providers ask for medical exams is to prove your pet is healthy. They might say an exam is to give them the information they need to find you the right plan. But the truth is, some providers are just looking for a reason to say no.

Pet insurance exclusions can be for all sorts of reasons. If certain pet insurance providers notice that your cat or dog might end up costing them money, they’ll say no to save themselves the cost. They might also use a medical exam to charge you a higher premium, and make sure they’re covering themselves as well as your pet.

That’s not putting your pet first, which is why TrustedPals doesn’t do it. But you can see a list of the companies that do by checking out our pet insurance comparison chart.

Medical exams aren’t much fun

The problem with medical exams isn’t just that they’re a way for pet insurance companies to say no to giving you a plan. They can also be scary for your pet, who probably doesn’t enjoy going to the vet when they’re sick. Why should they have to go when they’re fit and healthy?

Plus, medical exams aren’t cheap. The average vet visit can easily cost well over $50, which is money that you really should be spending on new toys and food.

Once you’re covered with the right pet insurance plan, you’ll be able to take your pet to the vet whenever they need medicine - or if they’ve been injured or hurt. These visits won’t cost you with TrustedPals, so save them until after you’re covered.

The exams don’t always stop once you’re covered

You’d think that having to get a medical exam before getting covered is bad enough, but some pet insurance companies don’t stop there. With certain providers, you might have to have one of these check-ups each and every year – just to renew your plan.

They might tell you that these exams are to help with an appropriate premium, or to keep an eye on your pet’s health. Really though, it’s just an easy way to raise premiums for pets that are getting older or have had medical issues in the past. In some cases, like when your pet gets older, they might even use this exam as a way to refuse to renew your plan, limiting the chances of having to pay out.

If they really wanted to put your pet’s health first, they’d cover you regardless. And that’s what we do. Once you’re a customer of TrustedPals, you’re a part of the family. And no matter how old your pet gets, we’ll never say no to renewing their plan.

What does ‘pre-existing condition’ mean for pet insurance?

Another reason why some pet insurance programs require medical exams before covering your pet, and every year after that, is to find pre-existing conditions. The language around these can be confusing, but basically, a pre-existing condition is an illness or injury that your pet had before you took out a pet insurance plan.

When a pet insurance program is requesting medical exams every year, they’re probably looking for more of these pre-existing conditions.

If they find them when you renew, they might say they won’t cover those conditions, leaving you with expensive vet bills to pay and a pet that’s not covered.

Cured means cured

Just like all pet insurance programs out there, we don’t cover pre-existing conditions. But we don’t go looking for more of them once you’re covered. After you’ve taken out a plan with us, any illnesses or injuries that your pet develops won’t count as pre-existing.

We also know that not all pre-existing conditions are incurable. There are plenty of issues that your pet might have had in the past before you came to us. But if they’ve been managed, taken care of, and don’t have any effect on your pet, we won’t count them as pre-existing and we’ll cover them.

Other pet insurance programs won’t always do the same, even if your pet’s injury or illness has been completely cured.

Insurance for pets, by pets

No medical exams, ever. Cured means cured. It’s all part of what makes TrustedPals different, and how we put your pet’s health first. Another way that we do this is with our Wellness Plans.

Regular care is one of the easiest and best ways to keep your pet feeling healthy and happy, so we give you $750 each year to pay for treatments that aren’t covered by normal pet insurance.

These could be special nutritional supplements, medicines, or even certain types of pet food. So no matter what your pet needs to stay fit and full of energy, you’ll be able to give it to them.
